But like many of us, I worry about the direction we're headed.\r\n<p>Housing is unaffordable. Healthcare costs keep rising. Wages aren't keeping pace with the cost of living. Climate change is threatening our water &amp; wilderness. At the same time, our legislature actively overrides the will of the people, rewriting ballot initiatives, protecting special interests, &amp; passing laws that hurt working families. And they do it without repercussion.\r\n</p><p>I’m running as a Democrat to offer Utahns a real choice in who represents them, but I’m not your typical Democrat. Both the GOP &amp; Democrats have failed working people for decades. \r\n</p><p>As a state employee working with incarcerated youth, I’ve seen firsthand how poverty &amp; instability destroys communities. My background in sociology &amp; public service has shaped my belief that strong communities require affordable housing, accessible healthcare, good-paying jobs &amp; government for regular people, not just donors. \r\n</p>\nWe can reelect the status-quo &amp; expect more of the same corporate-captured politicians &amp; hardship for everyone else. When teachers, tradespeople, and young families can’t afford to live in the communities they serve, things begin to break.\r\n</p>\nI support expanding deeply affordable, publicly owned social housing projects across the state with rents tied to income, and cracking down on speculative practices that drive up costs. Utahns deserve stable, affordable homes near their jobs and families, not a market rigged by political insiders with deep ties to the development industry.</li><li>Affordable Healthcare\r\n\r\nHealthcare costs are crushing working families across Utah. Too many people delay care, ration medication, or go into debt simply for trying to stay healthy. Utah voters chose to expand Medicaid in 2018, but our corporate-bought legislature rescinded many of the key aspects of Prop 3 in blatant disregard for the will of the people. I will fight to expand access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, lower prescription drug prices, and protect public health programs that keep rural and low-income communities alive. No one should have to choose between paying rent and seeing a doctor.
