My name is TJ Ware, and I’m running for Congress in Texas’s 24th District to fight for working Americans, protect our constitutional rights, and restore integrity to our government. I’m a Marine Corps combat veteran, a former Department of Justice employee, and a successful entrepreneur. I’ve spent my life in service— to my country, to my community, and now I’m standing up to represent everyday Texans who are tired of being ignored by Washington. I graduated high school at 16 and began working for the U.S. Department of Justice shortly after. I experienced 9/11 as a Justice Department employee and a few months later I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving in western Iraq in 2004. My time in the Marines taught me how to lead under pressure and put others before myself. My work at DOJ gave me an early look at how government functions—and how it sometimes fails the people it’s supposed to serve. After returning home, I used the GI Bill to become a licensed and instrument rated pilot. I served in nonprofit capacities before founding several small businesses. I built companies in construction, insurance adjusting and information/data. I worked for years, for property owners seeking fair compensation after disasters. I also have experience in general contracting, solar energy, electrical contracting, and commercial roofing. I’ve built businesses from the ground up and created many hundreds of jobs for others along the way. I understand Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. It’s time for change-makers to challenge the establishment, push back against political parties, and cast aside divisive rhetoric, for the benefit of all Americans and the beautiful country we love. I swore an oath to uphold and defend the constitution from all enemies foreign or domestic. I took, and still take that oath VERY seriously. I stand up for the second amendment, and EVERY amendment. We need strong federal courts, without unwarranted attacks or schemes to disrupt the balance of powers as envisioned by our founders. We need comprehensive, real immigration reform, so we can collect taxes from nonviolent immigrants, instead of rounding them up like animals. I propose we work together with our North American neighbors to build the greatest and most comprehensive trade partnership ever created, for the production of goods here in America instead of communist China.\r\n\r\nLet’s make NORTH America great again. we can re-shore essential production from China, back to North America, while helping Mexico build a strong and educated middle class. \r\n\r\nWe will collaboratively build up manufacturing in Mexico that produces low-cost materials and components for final assembly in the United States and Canada, on a scale never before envisioned. \r\n\r\nit’s time we work together in a bipartisan way to ensure that Americans have access to quality goods and experience supply chain security for generations to come. Are you tired of not being able to believe a single thing that comes out of the mouth of elected representatives or appointed government officials?\r\n\r\nI have authored Truth-In-Government legislation, that will make it a crime for elected officials to knowingly and willfully lie to or deceive the American public.\r\n\r\nI am tired of being lied to! I am tired of politician, saying one thing on the news, while drafting legislation that does the opposite. Governance via deception is unacceptable! \r\n\r\nNo matter your political positions, holding elected officials accountable is of the upmost importance in our country. Let’s make sure elected individuals are held civilly and criminally accountable, should they choose to mislead the American electorate. What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? I care about good and smart governance. I stand for: -Smart spending cuts that don’t harm the most vulnerable. -No cuts to Social Security. -No cuts to VA healthcare. -Freedom and Civil Rights. -Real, common sense Immigration Reform -No kids in cages or zip ties. -Strong National Defense. -Increase American manufacturing and production. -North American trade and manufacturing. -China and Russia aren't our friends. -Strong NATO alliances. -Merit Based jobs and promotions. -Trade schools and college alternatives -Strong middle class is essential for prosperity. -Take care of our elderly -Campaign Finance Reform -Stop Congressional and Governmental Insider Trading. -Economic Stability. -Enforcement of Emoluments Clauses. Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why? Jesus, for his selflessness and sacrificial love. I look up to Teddy Roosevelt, for his willingness to stand up to wealthy and powerful Robber Barons, for the betterment of America’s future. I appreciate his forward thinking and willingness to preserve our country’s natural beauty for generations to come. I appreciate the principal nature and dedication of Ron Paul. I love the powerful messages of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. I think John Cena is an American bad ass, although I’ve never watched a single round of professional wrestling. Cena has granted more make a wish wishes than any other person, and for this, I will honor and praise him until the day I die. Such selflessness for the most vulnerable amongst us is true service. I look up to Chuck Yeager and the other Patriots who risked their lives to usher America into the Jet age. I idolize Kelly Johnson, for his ability to create, produce, and deliver technological marvels, decades, if not centuries beyond their time, with the goal of preserving America’s freedom. I look up to my grandfather, who was my best man in my wedding. he was the most loving and selfless man I’ve ever known. He received a Bronze star medal for commanding a half-track against the communist Chinese forces, north of the 38th parallel. He went on to raise six amazing children, and spent the rest of his life focused on loving them, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and supporting his family and community. I look up to my own son Ethan, who has a heart for others like nothing I’ve ever seen. I never expected to be able to learn so much from my own children, but I’m eternally thankful that I have. Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy? My ideas don’t fall nicely into any mainstream political ideology. Every issue and topic deserves to be judged on its own merits. I don’t care about party platforms, I care about real action for ALL Americans. I’m running as a Conservative Democrat, with the inspirational and visionary spirit of JFK, the immigration views of Ronald Reagan, or George H.W. Bush, and a love for capitalism that doesn’t have to be abusive to be successful. My views and positions are an amalgamation of thousands of books and articles, with a heart for mankind and my fellow citizen. If I had to boil it down to one text… it would be the letters in RED. To be the best congressman, I must be selfless, and treat others as I wish to be treated. It’s tired to cast aside disconnected politicians with back room deals and double-standards. Let’s send true patriots to Washington, to enact massive change, in the spirit of the democracy our founders envisioned. What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official? Integrity, and a heart for serving others are the most essential traits of a good elected official. Too many self-motivated people are currently in congress. Too many political puppets are there for the wrong reasons, they serve two masters, and the American people often lose out. Elected officials need to be devoted to the success of this country, and to upholding the constitution. They should respect the balance of powers, a free press and an independent judiciary. Elected officials should be smart, aggressive when necessary, and dedicated to serving the needs of their constituents, not special interests. Elected officials mist realize the middle class is the backbone of our nation, and enact policies that benefit the majority, not a wealthy minority. Elected officials should inspire citizens to be BETTER, and to help their fellow Americans. I’m sick of nasty and divisive politics, making Americans with diferent ideas out to be enemy, while cozying up to our real enemies around the world. A good and strong elected official must have the wherewithal to resist big money and Billionaires meddling in government policy for their own benefit. The power belongs to the people, not elected officials, and sometimes it’s healthy to remind them of such. 👊 What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder? I am passionate, I’m a good communicator and I’m a very fast and strategic thinker. I want to serve for the future of this nation, my children, and my grandchildren. I have good, innovative ideas, and if we are able to push special interest out of mainstream politics, I can lead initiatives that benefit Americans for generations to come. What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office? The core responsibilities for someone elected to this office are to look out for the health, welfare, safety, and prosperity of our constituents. A congressman must be willing to do the right thing for their district, even in the face of opposition or financial incentives. A legislator must be smart and fast, reacting nimbly to new information, especially in out modern age of global news and technology. He must be transparent, and interested in the good of the common man. He must treat his constituents equally, whether they live in a mansion, or sleep in an alley. Congress must act collaboratively, with people being more important that party. It’s important to remember where you come from. Some of us came from blue-collar places, concerned with real issues rather than just divisive politics. It’s time for a new wave of leadership in Washington DC, not polished politicians, but principled warriors, dedicated to the success of ALL Americans. What legacy would you like to leave? I want to leave a legacy of service and selflessness. I want to inspire other others to stand up and do what’s right for their country. I want to encourage Americans to have empathy for their fellow man and woman. I want to help shape a better world for future generations. I want to be remembered as a voice against authoritarianism and despotism, in America and around the world. What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time? I remember Jessica in the well. As a small child, I watched communities come together heroically to save a young girl. I remember Y2K and the fear that was pervasive throughout our nation. I remember the 2000 tornado, in Fort Worth. I watched the sky turn green, and a wall cloud assault downtown. I remember giving a ride to a homeless man who had been hit by a blowing trashcan and ran out of downtown by the authorities, cleaning up in the aftermath. I remember September 11th, I watched on television as the second plane impacted the south tower. I remember my colleagues being on the phone with people in the Pentagon when another flight tragically met its end there. I remember the space shuttle Columbia disintegrating over East Texas. Always a lover of space and aviation, I felt for the astronauts in their families in during such tragedy. What was your very first job? How long did you have it? I was the only white kid on Hispanic bricklaying crew. I’ve seen and worked alongside hard-working immigrants for much of my life. After high school I worked at the Justice Department, when September 11th changed the trajectory of my life forever. I enlisted in the Marine Corps at only 17 years old, turning 18 in basic training. My time in the Marine Corps taught me about selflessness and dedication, and core values such as honor, courage, and commitment. It also gave me the utmost respect for other cultures, and the constitution itself. What is your favorite book? Why? The Four Agreements. This book has had a massive impact on my life, primarily due to the realization that both making assumptions, and taking things personally, is very rarely useful or productive in our lives. If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be? I’ve always really liked Superman. He’s a true American hero…. Despite being a literal space-alien. I love that he stood for Justice, and good; he fought against evil. I also love a single line from Spider-Man…. “With great power comes great responsibility” What was the last song that got stuck in your head? “This Land is My Land” by Woody Guthrie. I first learned about Woody Guthrie a couple years ago when visiting the national Holocaust museum in Washington DC. he was an anti-fascist, one who saw the true beauty of America and wanted all Americans to be able to experience it. What is something that has been a struggle in your life? Overcoming the horrors of my military service in the Iraq war was a major challenge, especially in my 20s. I’m such an intense and fast-paced leader, at times I have struggled to keep different areas of my life in balance. For those of us who feel called to do great things, it’s easy to forget the seemingly small, but incredibly important things and people closest to us. What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution? Representatives have the ability and the power to enact massive positive change for not only Americans, but for the human race around the world. Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics? I believe it’s more beneficial, at times, when political outsiders with other types of leadership experience decide to dedicate themselves to public service, using their innovative and aggressive natures, to affect positive change on this beloved American experiment. What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade? Economic stability, re-shoring manufacturing and production, especially for essential items. Food supply-chain security, which is why I’ve authored a bill focused on reinforcing the robustness of our grocery and food supply chains. Ridding government of fascist elements m. Fringe political and ideological beliefs have been supported by billionaires intent on transforming American politics into partisan authoritarianism. Like so many Americans, I will not stand for this! I fought to defend freedom and democracy overseas, there’s no way I’m going to let a few powerful people overturn hundreds of years of self-rule in the United States of America! 🇺🇸 Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives? I don’t personally love such a short term, it seems that congressmen have to spend every other year campaigning, and that takes away from their legislative duties. What are your thoughts on term limits? I’ve already authored a term-limits bill designed to keep people from becoming career politicians and paid-for opportunists. 4 terms in the House, and 2 in the Senate. Career politicians become out-of-touch with the American people. Remember, nobody can serve two masters. Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after? I appreciate the principled natures of both Ron and Rand Paul. I love the fiery advocacy and passion of people like Jasmine Crockett. I like the selflessness and dedication of this people like John McCain, who refused to participate in the partisan negativity and rumor mills that vilified his Democrat opponents. I like the leadership exhibited by past presidents, men who inspired Americans to be good, and informed citizens. Both sitting representatives and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful? I’ve heard SO MANY voices that feel unheard. I feel the fear in our communities from ineffective and cruel immigration policies. I see the struggles of regular people, deciding which bills go unpaid, or which meals get skipped. The American people have been losing their voices more and more, especially since the Citizens United ruling. Tell us your favorite joke. Ask me in person sometime, I can’t write something like that down for everyone to see 😂 Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking? Absolutely. Extreme partisanship has done nothing but divide and conquer other Americans. we have to work collectively, for the common good, and root out the influence of special interests in our government. We need to remember our principle of governance of the people, by the people and for the people. The Constitution says that all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House. What role would this power play in your priorities if elected? It’s a very important responsibility that the House of Representatives has. It must be taken very seriously, and policies and desires must be balanced in a way that benefit the American people as a whole, not any certain subset, that may be more vocal, or more able to afford attention from their elected representatives. How should the U.S. House use its investigative powers? Swiftly and judiciously. With transparency and a dedication to upholding the laws and principles created by our founders and legislators before us. What committees interest you? Appropriations, Armed Services, Judiciary, Oversight and Government Reform, Small Business, Veterans Affairs, Intellegence and Liberty. What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability? Government transparency and accountability is of the utmost importance, which is why I’ve authored Truth-In-Government legislation to hold elected officials accountable for intentional lies and deception. Government should be both accessible and accountable for decisions made. We need to encourage more Americans to take part and be involved with civic and political processes.\nNote: Ballotpedia reserves the right to edit Candidate Connection survey responses.
