Whose example would you like to follow, and why? I have many role models from MLK and Malcolm X, to FDR with his new deal. What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official? Ability to secure wins for the public against the billionaire and oligarch class. What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office? To always make the best decision for workers even ones outside the US who may be affected. To be able to ask piercing questions of corporate spokesmen and get to the crux of the issue in order to make the best decisions. What legacy would you like to leave? I would like to secure major wins for workers that reset the balance of power in our favor for a long time. What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time? Perhaps desert storm. I would have been 7 or 8. What was your very first job? How long did you have it? I worked at a pizza place as a teen for a few months. Later I worked at a book store. What is something that has been a struggle in your life? Being a worker in capitalism with limited worker protections and a few disabilities has been a challenge. I have always sought to lift others up first, even as my personal goals sometimes went unfulfilled. Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics? It can be useful, but not necessary. What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade? Fascism and deepening inequality. Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives? Two or fewer is just fine considering how much they are paid. The pay should be reduced as well. What are your thoughts on term limits? We definitely need term limits and perhaps they should be expanded to other offices as well like the Supreme Court. Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after? Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez perhaps. Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking? It is desirable, but we have already compromised too much. Any future compromises will have to rest upon a resetting of the dem/rep relationship. As of now, bipartisanship is fairly dead.
