Enacting Ethical Immigration Policies It is shocking and alarming the lengths to which the current administration will go to bring harm to immigrants on U.S. soil. We are in so many ways a nation of immigrants, built on the diversity that brings, and the promise of a better life - of freedom - of security. Now we see masked Federal Agents shoving people into unmarked vans. Federal forces are being dispatched on U.S. soil inappropriately. Innocent people are being racially profiled, denied due process, who are denied access to their families, and are stripped of their dignity. While I do believe that violent criminals should be prosecuted, I believe that people coming to the U.S. seeking a better life, those seeking asylum, and honest hard working immigrants who form the backbone deserve a fair shake, and to be treated with respect and dignity. In Congress, I will push hard to ensure that is the case, and I will stand up to unethical and cruel immigration policies that do not reflect the American spirit. I will work on building pathways to permanent residency and citizenship for those who want to share in that spirit and become productive, tax paying members of our society. I will hold officials accountable for Federal overreach, and stay grounded in the oath of office to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America every day - as it applies to citizens and non-citizens on our soil.
