With union-member grandparents and hardworking parents, I learned early-on that hard work can help someone realize the American dream. Following the example my family set, I attended the University of Pennsylvania, where I juggled three jobs and relied on student loans and federal work-study to put myself through my dream school.\r\n</p><p>After graduating college, I went on to found a successful small business, WithMe, a smart amenities company I built from my living room into a firm with more than 100 employees. Marrying profits with purpose, WithMe is green, hires veterans, and gives company ownership to every employee. I’ve chosen to reinvest in our employees: increasing salaries, alongside important benefits such as training and tuition sponsorship.\r\n</p><p>Then in 2024, I nearly died from an angioma (a vascular brain growth). While fighting for my life, I had to struggle with my insurance company to get my surgery covered. Ultimately having to switch health insurance plans to do so. Mega corporations make record profits while Arizonans’ pay remains stagnant. But we can build an economy that rewards work, not just wealth. That means smart, targeted policies to lower costs and invest in the middle class. It means making sure everyone has a fair chance to succeed. In Congress, I will restore programs that I and many Americans benefited from, make billionaires pay their fair share, and secure abundance for all of us.</li><li>We need real healthcare reform, but Congressional Republicans gutted Medicaid to fund tax cuts for billionaires, putting rural hospitals, seniors, and working families at risk.\r\nWe need a healthcare system that works for everyone. While respecting individual choice and preserving private options, I support strengthening the Affordable Care Act and giving families more stability and fewer surprises when they go to the doctor or fill a prescription. I will fight to reverse the Medicaid cuts while working to lower premiums, protect coverage for preexisting conditions, and invest in mental health services and rural clinics. It was a blood vessel growth (an angioma), and they needed to do major surgery. I was 35 and otherwise healthy. I just couldn't believe it. It wasn't on my bingo card for that year. I found myself making a living will, preparing my affairs, and telling my daughter that I might not wake up and we might be saying goodbye forever.<br/><br/>\r\nI also found that my insurance wouldn’t pay for the 2 million dollar surgery. I switched plans and, thanks to the lifesaving law Democrats passed in 2010 called the Affordable Care Act, my surgery was covered in the end.<br/>\n</p>\nEvery day, someone in our community faces a similar situation. They need life-saving care, but instead of focusing on surviving, they’re made to argue with insurance companies to get what they need to survive. It shouldn’t be this hard.
