The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Cantrell's responses.\nExpand all | Collapse all\nWho are you? Tell us about yourself. I'm a dedicated Truck Driver and an Independent candidate running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Georgia's 3rd Congressional District. My journey to this point has been fueled by a commitment to serve our community and address its most pressing needs. I've always believed in the power of hard work, community, and the importance of staying true to one's values, which is why I've stepped up to represent the people of West Georgia. **Community Health and Wellness** is a cornerstone of my platform. I firmly believe that every person should have access to affordable healthcare. Our community deserves a healthcare system that is accessible to all, ensuring that no one is left behind due to their financial situation. When it comes to **Economic Development**, my focus is on attracting and retaining diverse businesses in District 3. I am committed to working tirelessly to create an environment that supports existing businesses while drawing new ones to our region, fostering economic growth and job creation. **Education** is another critical issue for me. I hold the view that our children are the leaders of tomorrow, and investing in local public education is non-negotiable. We must provide our youth with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities they need to succeed in the future. My career as a Truck Driver has equipped me with exceptional communication and leadership skills. Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office? \"Drive Health, Fuel Growth\" - This slogan encapsulates my commitment to enhancing community health and wellness through affordable healthcare and propelling economic development by attracting and retaining businesses in Georgia's 3rd Congressional District. The use of \"Drive\" and \"Fuel\" metaphorically ties back to his truck-driving background, suggesting a hands-on, forward-moving approach to these critical issues. \"Educate Today, Lead Tomorrow\" - Reflecting my belief in investing in local public education, this slogan underscores the importance of nurturing the district's youth for a brighter future. It implies a direct cause-and-effect relationship between the quality of today's education and the caliber of tomorrow's leaders, aligning with my vision for the community's children. \"Voices Heard, Futures Secured\" - Highlighting my strong communication and leadership skills, as well as his commitment to ensuring that power lies with the people, not a party, this slogan promises a representative government that listens and responds. It also touches on his dedication to community health, economic development, and education as means to secure a prosperous future for all residents of Georgia's 3rd Congressional District. What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Community Health and Wellness Ensure affordability: Advocate for policies that lower healthcare costs and expand insurance coverage options. Enhance accessibility: Work to increase the number of healthcare facilities and professionals in underserved areas of District 3. Support preventive care: Promote initiatives that focus on preventive healthcare measures to reduce the long-term health costs and improve quality of life for constituents. Economic Development Attract diverse businesses: Leverage tax incentives and streamline regulatory processes to make Dis. 3 an attractive location for a variety of industries. Retain local businesses: Foster a supportive business environment through continuous dialogue and practical support mechanisms. Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy? As odd as this may sound, it isn't a film but a television series. I feel the closest thing to my ideology is Designated Survivor with Kiefer Sutherland. What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official? Authenticity, dedication, and a genuine concern for the community's welfare What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder? I am honest and caring for the people around me. What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office? The only responsibility an elected official has is to the constituents that they represent. What legacy would you like to leave? I would like to leave a legacy of a house united instead of the divisiveness that we have today. What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time? The very first historical event that happened that I can remember is when John Hinkley shot President Reagan. I was 5. What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution? It should be the voice of the people. Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics? No, I actually believe that this is the main problem today. Politicians only seek to be reelected and to appease their parties. What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade? The greatest obstacle that we face as a nation is the debt and healthcare. Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives? I think it makes things harder to accomplish. Four years would be better, but we are allotted only two. So we must make the best of the situation. What are your thoughts on term limits? I believe that if we instill Term Limits on the President, then why shouldn't Congress have them as well. I will stand by this and if elected will only serve 6 terms, 12 years. Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking? I do believe that we must have compromise in order to obtain the greater goal. However, we shouldn't have to compromise our integrity to get things accomplished. How should the U.S. House use its investigative powers? Any entity should use investigative powers to get to the unadulterated truth. What committees interest you? Foreign Affairs, Intelligence, Armed Forces, Veteran's Affairs What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability? There should be absolute transparency with all aspects of the government.\nNote: Ballotpedia reserves the right to edit Candidate Connection survey responses.
