Instead of caravans filled with people trying to enter our country, I witnessed Americans crossing the border into Mexico in droves for their most basic healthcare needs. It is inexcusable that Texans must seek healthcare in a foreign country because we can't seem to pass adequate legislation to assure the healthcare needs of our populace are met. I am committed to working across the aisle to get the affordable and accessible healthcare legislation Americans overwhelmingly support passed.</li><li>I support pragmatic energy policies that bring jobs and investment resources to our state while preserving the environment. Here in Houston, the energy capital of the world, we are home to many innovators and forward-thinking leaders eagerly navigating the new frontier of lower carbon energy resources. We should acknowledge those energy companies that are investing in carbon capture technologies and innovations, growing their investment in renewables, and stepping up to facilitate reduction of global carbon emissions by increasing LNG production. We should incentivize investment in energy company technologies and actions that work to lower carbon emissions. Doing so will help grow our economy and keep us competitive in the global market.</li><li>A nation of immigrants, whether by choice or by force, we aspire to a set of ideals that unites us. All of us regardless of our political affiliation want opportunity for our families. To achieve the promise of our nation, we must preserve and protect the freedom to be who we are, without fear of retribution.
