Small businesses are the engine that drive our economy. Smart public policy is both pro-business and pro-worker. That's why I'm an advocate for policies that grow the economy by reducing red tape, investing in people, rewarding innovation, and sharing in success. Only 40% of students go to college: for this reason, we must address the needs of the 60% by expanding vocational and technical training at high school levels. We have a shortage of skilled labor force, without whom we could not maintain our way of life.

I strongly believe that we must ensure every American has high-quality, affordable healthcare, regardless of their age, condition, geography, or ability to pay. Only prevention and early intervention will lower the cost of healthcare. Many people are becoming chronically ill, disabled, and unable to work because they waited too long to receive care.

We have to take a holistic approach to immigration. The immigration system has been broken for too long because Republicans and Democrats take advantage of the issue to gain favor each election season. Spending $65 billion to protect the border is counter productive. We must create a partnership with Canada, Mexico, and the rest of Latin America by establishing new initiatives. By lifting sanctions on Venezuela and Cuba, and increasing economic aid and investment in countries where immigrants are coming from, we would greatly reduce the number of asylum seekers and other immigrant groups trying to enter the US illegally. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office? Jobs and economy are essential if we are to remain the global leader. This will be a win-win situation for everyone and will save the taxpayers billions of dollars. What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? I am passionate about issues that effect the younger generations, such as low wages, lack of affordable housing, the opioid crisis, and homelessness. We are spending billions on interception of drugs from Mexico for decades and this is not working. We must provide more education on harmful effects of drugs in elementary and middle schools. We must provide more funding for rehabilitation and job training for the unhoused population. By doing this, we will enable many people to enter the workforce, which will contribute to our tax base. Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why? Starting as a very young student, I admired authors, artists, and individuals who risked their lives in order to create a better world for the masses. The feminists in the US and Europe who were instrumental in achieving the right to vote and receive an education that their male counterparts had. Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy? I am an author of four books. My book, Hidden Agenda, would help average voters without sufficient knowledge in the area of politics and civic engagement. Out of the Shadows will motivate and inspire people to act on their beliefs, and demonstrate that everything is possible. Parenting Made Simple is a must read book as it covers parenting issues from before conception until adolescent age. History of Serbia and the Balkan People shows us that people are the same, they want the best for themselves, their families, and the world around them. The theme is that people everywhere want peace, not war. The hatred is instigated by those who fight for power and their own aggrandizement. The reason I recommend these books is because they are concise and make their subjects easy to understand. What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official? Honesty, integrity, compassion, and empathy for all. Decisions have to be made based on human needs, not in interests of corporations and wealthy campaign donors. What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder? I am compassionate and deeply empathetic for the well being of all people. There is unnecessary suffering that could be greatly reduced if we addressed the greed and selfishness of the ruling class. What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office? To give everything of yourself to a cause you believe in, which will empower people to reach their highest potential. What legacy would you like to leave? My legacy would be to play a role in the creation of a world free of wars and provide women in underdeveloped countries with education and women's reproductive health services. Outlaw polygamy in Central Africa because they exploit poor families by taking multiple young girls as their wives. We need sustainable population growth. Most conflict and wars are caused by extreme poverty. What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time? I grew up in Serbia, and all young people at the time wanted peace in the world, and we all thought it was possible. We strived to be good, in hope of building a new world where everyone in the world got along with each other. When President Kennedy was assassinated, I and many people in my generation cried because we felt we lost a friend who believed in the same things we did. What was your very first job? How long did you have it? My first job at age of 19, was as a nurse in Switzerland for one year. In Austria, for two years; Canada for three years. My desire was to see and understand the world at large, learn foreign languages, and know about cultures and histories of these countries as much as possible. At 26, I immigrated to San Francisco, where I worked as a nurse, ran a nurses agency, and graduated from San Francisco State University as a political science major. What is your favorite book? Why? War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy What was the last song that got stuck in your head? We Are the World What is something that has been a struggle in your life? Fighting for justice and fairness since early childhood. In primary school, I recognized that some teachers were sometimes emotionally abusive to students who did not perform well and I would intervene on their behalf. Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics? No. You need a broad educational background, in all areas affecting humanity, such as: history, geography, international relations, healthcare and business-related expertise. I have experience and education in all of the above areas. What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade? The destruction caused by fire, floods, and hurricanes will be devastating economically, so we must take climate change seriously. Income inequality will cause unrest, lead to more homelessness. This issue is very serious. If we don't intervene now, we will witness severe unrest and more people will be unable to pay their rent. Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives? I would recommend four year terms. This way, they will spend more time working on behalf of the American people as opposed to constantly raising money for the next election. What are your thoughts on term limits? In the House, the limit should be 8 terms. Elected officials would say that is dangerous because they want to stay in power until they die. All elected officials are trained by bureaucrats who may remain in their position for a lifetime. Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after? Dina Titus, Barbara Lee, Jackie Spear. Both sitting representatives and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful? Cost of healthcare and housing is on the mind of most people. Young people are worried about how to pay for college education and getting well paid jobs. Gig economy is not beneficial for most people employed by those companies. Tell us your favorite joke. An attorney died young and he asked God, \"Why did I have to die so young?\" God responded, \"By the hours you claimed you work, you must be at least 100 years old.\" Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking? Yes. Compromise is necessary at all levels of decision making process, including negotiated peace among nations in conflict. The Constitution says that all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House. What role would this power play in your priorities if elected? I will be more thoughtful about how revenues should be raised and spent. How should the U.S. House use its investigative powers? Together with an independent committee, not appointed by government officials, but chosen because of their expertise. This calls for participatory democracy. What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign? Thousands of people from all walks of life. Elected officials should not be endorsing candidates running for office in the primary. What committees interest you? Budget Education and the Workforce Financial Services Oversight and Accountability What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability? We need a committee of unelected officials, chosen by peer groups and in conjunction with government employees, to audit all government agencies and budgets. The waste and programs that aren't working must be eliminated. Further increase of budget deficits is not sustainable. Future generations will be unable to respond to the crisis created by the present leadership.\nNote: Ballotpedia reserves the right to edit Candidate Connection survey responses. Patchwork approaches to health care reforms are not working. California families pay $5000 per year for insurance premiums. 30% goes directly to insurance companies and not to patient care. With surging health care costs it will become increasingly tougher for employers to provide health care benefits. We can prevent the health care catastrophe if we work together. Our plan ensures that health services are appropriate, effective, and focused on consumer needs. Lower prescription drug price and open more day care centers for seniors who cannot stay at home alone.\n

The Environment
\nMany of our kids are growing up with childhood asthma because of our high air pollution. I strongly believe in the scientific consensus that climate change is real and man-made. I will fight back against any attempts to undo international agreements on climate change like the Paris Climate Accord. We must incentivize investments in clean energy sources and move away from polluting fossil fuels. The fastest growing industry in our nation is wind energy and solar’s not far behind - the future of our economy is in green energy. I'll work to promote greater onservation and innovation through tax credits.\n

Education
\nImproving public education is the single most important step we can take to strengthen the economic and social fabric of our society. Ensure access to affordable, equitable, high-quality universal pre-kindergarten education. Fight to make college more affordable and accessible. Too many students are crippled with high debt loads right as they start their careers. I will fight to make community college and vocational training programs tuition-free and invest in our public universities so more students have access. We must provide more counseling and tutoring services for middle and high school students.\n

Immigration
\nImmigrants in our community are our friends, classmates, and neighbors - they’re American in every way but on paper We should be providing them a pathway to citizenship.
