Catherine Parker is a wife, mother, accomplished business owner, and successful organizer and took her first oath of office 15 years ago. Parker’s victories in combating climate change include establishing an Office of Energy and Sustainability, funding flood control projects, encouraging the investment in renewable energies, and reducing local governments carbon footprint. She’s made the acute connection between social justice and environmental policy and has successfully passed legislation that has saved taxpayers money and kept our air and water clean.\r\n<p>Catherine was born and raised in Westchester. Her great grandfather's milk delivery route tracked through Scarsdale and White Plains. Her father abandoned the family when she was an infant. As a result, Catherine grew up in the care of strong women: her mother, a public school science teacher; and her grandmother, a nurse. She started working at the age of 13 and became interested in political activism at 15. That path, which has allowed her to do so much good for so many Westchester residents, led her to serve as the Democratic Majority Leader of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, where she passed groundbreaking laws from gun safety to environmental protection and women’s rights.</li><li>Women’s Rights and Reproductive Freedom. Women and girls still face discrimination and violence in this country at record levels. Gender inequality underpins many of the problems our communities face daily and disproportionately impact women and girls such as domestic violence, access to healthcare, lower pay, and even lack of access to education. As women’s reproductive freedoms are under attack by the right, our very own Supreme Court readies a decision that could set women’s reproductive freedom back 50 years. Congress must take a stand to protect these freedoms for all women and girls.</li><li>Gun Safety. Access to firearms has become more of a threat to everyday life than ever before and Catherine believes there are simple, pragmatic solutions that can uphold our 2nd Amendment Rights by also holding gun owners accountable and gun manufacturers responsible. Catherine supports a national universal background check law, prohibition of magazines over 10 rounds, and supports the prohibition of assault weapons sales to citizens.
